MISSION AND VALUES
Preamble
The basic values of Crossroads Youth Ministry of Parker County, Inc. are built upon living as Christ’s Family. These values determine the ways we operate, behave, and function in everything we do. Living as Christ’s Family is a journey that helps us to understand the values and virtues that God placed in the hands of His children through the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth.
This journey will find us learning about God’s values, evaluating our current conditions, and challenging ourselves to practice new methods of relating to God, others, and ourselves, so that we can make the necessary adjustments to live as Christ’s family. By living as Christ’s Family we become healthier and more efficient board members, employers, students, workers, co-workers, friends, siblings, neighbors, children, spouses, parents, and leaders.
Mission Statement
The Mission of the Crossroads Youth Ministry is to provide an environment where teenagers trapped in chaotic family situations can experience a healthy family community, living as Christ’s Family.
Crossroads Youth Ministry Values
The Crossroads Youth Ministry is a faith-based, not-for-profit Ministry that focuses on teens whose basic emotional, physical, and spiritual needs are often unmet. We serve as advocates for youth in Parker County, many of whom are homeless and/or are dealing with abuse, addiction, and neglect. Our purpose is to meet the basic human needs of the youth whose human rights have been neglected or violated. Accordingly:
- We seek to fulfill the necessary needs of each youth served.
- We teach the youth to develop a healthy relationship with God, with one another, with staff, and the world around them.
- We teach youth essential skills that are necessary to live productive lives.
- We assist the youth we serve to define a future for their lives, create a plan of action to achieve that future, and help them carry out that plan.
- We model a healthy home environment by being a family to one another.
- We believe that teenagers who have been damaged by many of their life experiences need multiple opportunities to experience corrective and healing experiences in the “real world.” One particularly effective way to accomplish this value is the judicious use of field trips.
- We vow to never turn away from any youth, regardless of the circumstances.
- We vow to relate to the youth we serve based upon the concept of Grace, where every child deserves to be loved and accepted unconditionally.
- We strive to help the youth we serve understand the value and meaning of consequences for inappropriate behavior.
- We seek to help older youth become more responsible for their lives and develop them into Shepherds that mentor younger youth.
- We seek to create a safe haven for those youth whose lives have been endangered.
- We categorically reject “physical punishment” and other forms of physical aggression, from adults towards youth, youth to youth, or youth to adult.
- We operate on a philosophy of mutual respect, which is reflective of God’s love for his children.
- We model living as Christ’s Family in all of our activities relative to the Youth Ministry. By living as Christ’s Family, we become healthier and more efficient students, workers, co-workers, friends, siblings, neighbors, children, spouses, parents and leaders.
